The details of how enemy movement is determined is beyond the scope of this guide, but essentially, the enemy focus is the ‘main target that enemy is trying to get to’.

  • The invisible character can’t be selected as an enemy focus.
  • The invisible character can still take damage from effects that directly cause damage, particularly traps and retribution effects.
  • The invisible character is effectively immune to enemy characters.

This goes for area of effect abilities, too.

  • The invisible character can’t be attacked or targeted by hostile effects.
  • Design your hand and strategy to support this behavior. So the second thing to remember is: Invisibility should be used aggressively. Avoiding enemy attacks is only a means to an end. This means that as powerful as invisibility is, it needs to be used in a way to set up your attacks. Your objective is always to generate damage and eliminate enemies. You have a very limited number of plays to finish the scenario, so you can’t afford to waste turns. The second thing to remember is that you are on a clock in Gloomhaven. Design your hand to facilitate this behavior. So the first thing to remember is: Go into invisibility early, come out of invisibility late. This allows a single use of invisibility to essentially waste two sets of attacks from your enemies, and is the key to making the invisibility build work. The general idea, therefore, is to go early in the round when applying invisibility, and go late in the next round when already invisible – specifically, you want to go before the enemies on the turn you want to become invisible, and you want to go after your enemies on the turn your invisibility will wear off. This is key to making the most of invisibility. In particular, most buffs are removed at the end of the next turn taken by the entity with the buff with a few exception not directly relevant for this guide. The most important thing to understand first is just when buffs and debuffs are removed from entities in the game. You will then become the host of the game.Invisibility is a very powerful status effect, but can be tricky to use properly without a good grasp of the basics of how the game operates. Thus, once the file has been saved in "My documents" folder, you can resume a multiplayer game in progress without its initial host by simply loading the save in your game main menu.

The system we designed allows you to automatically download the host's save once the team has joined. Handy indeed when a more experienced friend is thus able to help you during a difficult quest! She/He can come back later on during the adventure, or a new player can replace the one that is not available any more. If a player is not able to join a session, the rest of the group can go on, one of the remaining players assuming control of more than one mercenary to compensate. Once everything is ready, you will be able to face the dangers that inhabit the region. Make sure you communicate with each other to optimize your squad! It is then the host who will choose the mission on the map.

Depending on the gold ruleset chosen, players can be free to spend the common money of the group. In the Guildmaster adventure, the players are then free to change mercenary if there are any available left and in both game modes, the player are free to modify the deck and the items of their mercenary. Once all the players have joined, the host assigns a mercenary to each of her/his teammates.

We strongly recommend using a VOIP service to better coordinate with your fellow mercenaries: feel free to check the Gloomhaven official Discord community available here. Up to four players can thus play together online. The host generates a unique key that other mercenaries can use to join the session or invites them using Steam's friends system.
